Administrative Pathway

According to the American Board of Administrative Medicine, “Administrative medicine is the practice of physicians who, as executive leaders, manage the integration of clinical medicine, strategy, operations, and other business activities essential to achieve high quality care.” Family physicians often find themselves working in a variety of administrative roles. This pathway is intended for residents with an interest in a career with administrative emphasis. 

Potential pathway activities include:

Meetings with leadership at Baptist Memorial Health Care Corporation and within the GME department Meetings with leadership at the Memphis VA Medical Center
Attendance at various committee meetings within the Baptist organization 
Regular attendance at PEC (program evaluation committee) meetings
Membership and involvement with the American Association for Physician Leadership
Residents in the pathway will complete a QI project that relates to their administrative area of interest. Residents in this pathway will collaborate with the program coordinator for a weekly program newsletter. Residents in the pathway will lead and facilitate a resident/faculty book club, a longitudinal experience that involves reading and reviewing books relating to the topic of physician leadership.
