Behavioral Health Pathway

Many medical conditions are greatly affected by the mental and behavioral health of the patient. The goal of the behavioral health track is to teach family medicine residents how to incorporate the psychosocial aspects of medicine in the course of treating patients. Residents will learn evidence-based and compassionate behavioral health skills for incorporation into the practice of family medicine. This track will facilitate a comprehensive view of behavioral health through encounters with patients who are experiencing psychosocial issues.
Residents will learn about a range of psychiatric disorders and how to refer patients to psychiatric care and other behavioral health and social services. Residents will collaborate with medical, behavioral health, and social service providers to meet multi-level health needs of patients and their families. By bringing medical and behavioral health services together, residents will be better able to meet both the mental and physical health needs of patients.
